Päivitystahti on ollut anteeksiantamattoman hidas. Blogin sisältö on hajaantunut useisiin kanaviin - pikkuasiat ja linkkilöydöt Facebookiin, kännykkäkuvat Ovi Shareen ja Qikiin. Sen lisäksi blogausenergiaani on ohjattu myös muihin blogeihin. En lupaa tulevaisuudesta mitään, mutta yritetään.

Blogin palvelin vaihtui ja siirsin sen samalla uuden domainin alle. Sivuun kannattaa edelleen viitata osoitteen http://www.iki.fi/avs/ kautta, mutta suora osoite on nykyään punycode-domain. Jos selain- tai RSS-lukuohjelmasi on liian vanhanaikainen, koneluettava muoto osoitteelle on http://xn--vh-sipil-0zabg.fi/avs/.

Kaikkien vanhojen linkkien, niin suorien kuin ikiohjattujenkin, pitäisi toimia saumattomasti ja ohjautua uuteen paikkaan.

Atom-syötteessä oli bugi, joka ei jäänyt aiemmin kiinni edes syötetarkistimessa. Se esti sisällön näkymisen joissakin RSS-lukijoissa. Itse asiassa speksin mukaan voitaneen viilata pilkkua siitä, oliko bugi syötteessä vai lukijaohjelmissa, mutta korjata piti, sillä blogillani ei ole määräävää markkina-asemaa (vielä).

Syöte on nyt testattu muutamalla eri lukijalla ja validaattorilla. Jos vielä on ongelmia, kertokaa.

Jos muuten haluatte seurata vain tietyn tyyppisiä blogientryjä (esimerkiksi pelkästään mobiiliblogia jättäen yhteiskunnallisen angstin omaan arvoonsa), dokumentoimattomana ominaisuutena voitte käyttää kategoriakohtaista Atom- tai RSS-syötettä. Valitkaa vain kategoriavalikosta oikeasta reunasta haluamanne kategoria ja vaihtakaa .html -pääte muotoon .rss tai .atom.

Olin tässä eilen hämmentynyt oman tekstini suosiosta. Erään aiemmin kirjoittama blogiartikkelini tekstiä ilmaantui toisaalle verkkoon kosmeettisesti muuteltuna ja avauduin arvoisille lukijoilleni plagiarismista. Sinänsä hassua, koska alkuperäinen juttu ei ollut mielestäni edes erityisen laadukas.

Asia korjaantui alle 24 tunnin (blogistan on varsin tehokas!), joten totean tässä nyt vain kaiken olevan kunnossa. Kiitos ja kumarrus.

Blogien suuri vahvuus on se, että linkittämällä edestakaisin ne luovat dynaamisen, elävän verkon. Hyvään blogaustapaan kuuluu, että alkuperäisidean lähteelle annetaan mainetta ja kunniaa linkittämällä takaisin päin ko. blogiartikkelin pysyvään osoitteeseen ("permalinkkiin"). Jos jokin tekstinpätkä iskee tajuntaan niin, että se on sellaisenaan hyvä, sitaattioikeuden nojalla suora lainaus ja lähdeviittaus ovat paikallaan. Ihmisten kokeman "karman" lisäksi tämä nostaa myös esimerkiksi hakukoneiden näkemää arvostusta ja alkuperäisen bloggaajan statusta ajatusten Tonavana.

Kaikki alkuperäinen materiaali tässä blogissa on toki lisensoitu sopivalla Creative Commons -lisenssillä. Siitä vaan painokoneet käyntiin ja jakamaan niitä ihmisille kadulla.

The Atom feed has been updated to conform to specification release 1.0. If your RSS reader chokes on it, contact their development team. As before, the Atom feed is the preferred method of reading as it contains the full contents of the blog entries.

In addition, some bugs in RSS feed have been fixed (which did not cause it to be invalid), and both feeds now correctly include the Creative Commons license data.

The default style of permalinks has been changed (and this also affects the feed addresses). For backwards compatibility, the old URIs will continue to work (they are permalinks after all), but the new permalinks should be more user and search engine friendly. I would recommend switching to the new RSS/Atom feed URIs though: Atom feed, RSS feed.

The upcoming service break has been postponed. It may happen sometime during the New Year.

Our server that hosts this blog is slowly falling apart. You can probably tell by looking at the response time. It is probable that there will be a few days' maintenance break in very near future. If I have enough time, I will mirror the blog on our second server. In order to be able to access it, be sure to always link to it through my iki.fi redirection. Cut and paste any direct links to posts from the page, not from the browser's address bar. Point your RSS reader to the RSS links on the right hand pane.

Why all this? because I have not yet got myself a vanity domain. Probably will do that next year.

Oma bloginikin joutui kommenttispammereiden uhriksi. Texas hold'em ja Online Casino olivat tunkeneet itsensä automaagiseen trackback-toiminnallisuuteeni. Googlen kommenttiroskan vastainen menettely on yksi pieni askel, joka jokaisen blogin pitäisi ottaa käyttöön, mutta varsinainen spam-suodatus tapahtuu nykyisellään käyttäen hyväksi sitä, että useimmat spammerit käyttävät epästandardia HTTP-kyselyä. Jos trackback-ping tulee tällä tavalla epäilyttävästä kohteesta, serveri uudelleenohjaa kyselyn tyynen rauhallisesti 127.0.0.1:een.

Now I have two aggregation/syndication feeds working. I am still not using any aggregators myself so I cannot guarantee that they work; however, both feeds pass muster in the RSS/Atom feed validator.

The Atom feed has the full content (full HTML in entries, UTF-8), and the RSS feed is a bare-bones, text-only, shortened version in ISO 8859-1.

If this made absolutely no sense, then try with the Atom feed first and fall back to the RSS feed if it won't work.

Note that you can subscribe to certain categories only by selecting the category from the category menu and replacing the .html suffix with .atom and .rss, respectively.

If there is a Blosxom user out there who has an RSS feed with a more recent syntax than 0.91, I would like to hear from them. Currently my RSS feed is broken as the RSS syntax does not allow HTML.

Happy Yuletide! In the current world of competing religions, and the continuous strive to be Politically Correct, it is hard to find a term that would spread the season happiness all over. Ok, who thinks that "holiday season" is the way to go? Well, for example, I don't have much holidays at this time of year. How about "season's greetings"? How bland. I have been using Yuletide ("the time of the Yule") as a suitable, drop-in, annoy-everybody-equally replacement. According to Yule's Wikipedia definition, Yule is a neopagan sabbat. Well, duh, doesn't quite sound as PC, and I definitely don't subscribe to that kind of belief system. But if we disregard neopaganism, which is probably a passing fad anyway, Yuletide has considerable benefits as a term. First of all, the Finnish word joulu (nowadays meaning Christmas) comes directly from Yule, as comes the generic Scandinavian jul and the Icelandic jól. Yule was celebrated long before Christianity as the celebration of the winter solstice. Given the commercialisation of the current Christmas time, I hardly see any difference between the current Christmas and the Yule of the past - both are aiming at decreasing the psychological effects of darkness by illumination, food, drink, and gifts.

So, happy Yuletide, to all of you, whether humans, penguins, or red foxes.
