Joining the blogging community
So there. I replaced the front page with a blog. This is mainly a placeholder for now, and it is not syndicated, and probably there won't be anything interesting for considerable time. The rest of the content is still available in the 'Other pages' box on the left.
To do:
- Automatic publication of blog entries from my mobile phone, including pictures, video and sound clips delivered over MMS. About 50 % done.
- Look into RSS feeds and syndication.
- Bilingual support. Currently this page does not autodetect the browser language. I will make a Finnish flavour as well, although the stories cannot be localised under the current Blosxom release.
- There is still some crud in iztsu (see below) templates which I need to clean out. Also I need to verify the correct rendering of the page on other browsers. Currently tested:
- Mozilla 1.4 on Linux and 1.5 on Win2k - ok.
- Opera 6.1 on Series 60 - ok for small screen rendering, fails on full screen due to the large flower image. Consider adequate.
- Doris Browser 1.18 on Series 60 - UTF-8 and XHTML problems, but readable. Need to investigate whether my or Anygraaf's problem.
- Nokia 6600 Browser - fails on calendar, but readable. Their problem.
- Lynx 2.8.4rel2 on Solaris - ok. No CSS.
- Links 0.98 on Solaris - ok. No CSS.
- Netscape 4.75 on Win2k - ok. No CSS.
- Internet Explorer 5.5 on Win2k - ok, but no PNG transparency support. Forces me to use JPEG, resulting in horrendous artifacts.
The blog is running on Blosxom, an excellent plug'n'play Perl blogging software. All layout is done purely with CSS and UTF-8 and therefore it looks really crappy on older browsers, but hey, time to move on. The theme is based on iztsu, which I took and neutered - I need no friggin' writebacks.
